          Expat Chronicles 2 The Return” (4 years later)

It was 4 years ago, to this very day, June 10th, 2014, that I made my fateful move from Cambodia, hopping on a plane to fly back home to America, after having lived as an Expat in the Kingdom of Cambodia for seven years.

I knew I was about to meet my Destiny head on. My intuitive sense told me this was about to become an epic new chapter. But never did I expect the the impact it would have on me, coming home to an America that was so dramatically different from the Country I had left 7 years before.

 

                                             State of Shock

That would be the phrase I would continue to use to describe my mindset when I returned to my home Country. State of Shock.

Had my Country ever felt so divided ? It was unsettling and weird, while, simultaneously, I felt elated to be back home to the land of opportunity. Living that long in a developing country had changed my perspective on many things, not the least of which was the level of appreciation I felt for the good fortune of being born an American Citizen. I was feeling very grateful to be returning home, although, I really didn’t have a home.
